A Geriatric Care Manager Can Help You

There are more services than ever before to help you achieve balance between respect for your parents’ dignity, assurance that their safety and wellbeing needs are met, and a degree of freedom from worry about them. A geriatric care manager can handle the day-to-day work of managing parent care and free you to focus on your own family and career and on your relationship with your parents.

A geriatric care manager can provide a variety of services for your parents and keep you informed. She can conduct a comprehensive assessment to identify care needs; hire and manage in-home caregivers; recommend appropriate residential care options; accompany parents to healthcare appointments, serve as their advocate and ensure that follow-up instructions are carried out; handle medical emergencies; watch over your parents wherever they live; and provide a wide variety of other services as needed. She can also assemble community-based services such as Meals on Wheels or adult day care; and refer you to the services of other professionals such as lawyers, financial planners and healthcare providers.
