Warning Flags Can Signal a Decline

An atypical detail of behavior can be a parent care “call to action”. Alert to warning flags, you can intervene and perhaps avert a crisis. Eldercare can be foreign territory and difficult to navigate. A geriatric care manager can help you understand your parent’s needs; find and manage appropriate parent care; and help you achieve a degree of freedom from worry about your parents.

Below are only a few common warning flags

PHYSICAL HEALTH

Frail health

• Health crises and emergency trips to the U.S. have become frequent.

• An array of health conditions treated by various specialists makes it difficult for your parent to keep up with healthcare appointments and follow-up instructions.

Physical decline

• Your parent has progressive vision loss and is legally blind.

• Your parent falls and breaks a bone and you learn that this is the latest of many previous falls.

• Housekeeping and personal grooming are an increasing challenge for your parent.
